neuralgias

Sharp nerve discomforts

Neuralgias is the plural of neuralgia, a condition characterized by sharp, shooting pain along the path of a nerve.

The pain typically comes in sudden bursts rather than constant aching: She suffered from facial neuralgias that made eating difficult.

Different neuralgias are named for the nerves they affect—trigeminal neuralgia, occipital neuralgia, postherpetic neuralgia.
