nattering

Going on endlessly

Nattering is idle, aimless chatter—talk that goes on without saying much of substance.

The word carries mild irritation: Stop nattering and get to the point.

Someone who natters prattles on about trivial matters.

More common in British than American English.

A natter can also be the chat itself: We had a nice natter over tea.
