mystifier

One who baffles

A mystifier is someone who mystifies—who confuses, puzzles, or deliberately obscures.

The word applies both to people who genuinely perplex others and to those who intentionally create confusion or deception: The magician was a master mystifier.

A mystifier might also be a thing that baffles: The case remained a mystifier for decades.
