musical structure

How songs organize

Musical structure is how a piece of music is organized—its sections, patterns, and the relationships between them.

A song might follow verse-chorus-verse structure; a symphony might have four movements.

Structure encompasses form (sonata, rondo, ABA), repetition and variation, and how themes develop over time: The musical structure builds tension through the bridge before releasing in the final chorus.
