mummying

Embalming with wrappings

Mummying is the process of preserving a body through desiccation, wrapping, or embalming—either the ancient Egyptian practice or natural preservation in dry conditions.

More commonly, it describes wrapping someone or something tightly, like a mummy in bandages: The nurses mummied his broken leg in gauze.

Parents mummy infants in blankets for warmth or sleep.
