movie rights
Hollywood licensing deal
Movie rights are the legal permissions to adapt a work—typically a book, article, or life story—into a film.
When a studio acquires the movie rights to a novel, they gain exclusive authority to produce a cinematic version.
Rights may be optioned (temporarily held) before a full purchase: They optioned the movie rights for two years.
The term extends to television as TV rights or collectively as film and television rights.
