mother liquor

Post-crystallization liquid remainder

Mother liquor is the liquid remaining after crystals have formed and been removed from a solution.

In chemistry and industrial processes, this residual fluid still contains dissolved substances that didn't crystallize: The mother liquor was recycled to extract additional product.

Also called mother liquid or mother water.
