A moss ball is a spherical clump of green algae that forms naturally in certain cold lakes, rolling gently on the bottom until it takes on a velvety, ball-like shape.
The term usually refers to *Aegagropila linnaei*, sold in aquarium shops as "marimo" and kept as low-maintenance aquatic pets: I added a moss ball to my betta tank.
Moss ball can also mean any ball of actual moss used in terrariums or crafts.
