moral accountability

Duty for actions

Moral accountability is the state of being answerable for one's actions and their ethical consequences.

Someone with moral accountability can be legitimately praised or blamed, rewarded or punished, for what they do.

The concept assumes that the person acted freely and understood the implications: Children lack full moral accountability.

Debates about moral accountability often center on how much control people truly have over their choices.
