mob attack
Gang up on
A mob attack is a violent assault by a crowd acting collectively, often spontaneously.
The term suggests chaotic, unorganized aggression rather than coordinated action: The protest devolved into a mob attack on police vehicles.
Mob attacks may target individuals, property, or institutions, with the crowd's anonymity emboldening participants.
