missed-call
Voicemail's frequent precursor
A missed call is an incoming phone call that ends before being answered.
The term also describes a deliberate practice, common in parts of Asia and Africa, of calling someone and hanging up quickly so they'll call back—saving the caller's phone credit while signaling a request for contact: Give me a missed call when you arrive.
