misorient
Point the wrong way
Misorient means to orient incorrectly or in the wrong direction.
It applies to physical positioning—a map or compass can be misoriented—but also to mental or conceptual alignment: The training completely misoriented new employees about company priorities.
Someone who is misoriented may have a faulty understanding of their situation or surroundings.
The word is less common than its synonym disorient, which emphasizes confusion rather than simply incorrect orientation.
