misdiagnosed
Incorrectly labeled medically
Misdiagnosed means incorrectly identified, especially regarding a medical condition: She was misdiagnosed with anxiety when she actually had a thyroid disorder.
The error can go either direction—diagnosing disease where none exists, or missing what's actually wrong.
Beyond medicine, misdiagnosed applies to any faulty identification of a problem: The mechanic misdiagnosed the engine trouble.
