miscalibrations

Instruments set wrong

Miscalibrations are errors in calibration—instances where an instrument, system, or judgment has been set incorrectly or has drifted from accurate measurement.

The term applies to physical devices miscalibrations in the sensor caused faulty readings and to human reasoning cognitive miscalibrations lead us to overestimate our own abilities.

In psychology and behavioral economics, miscalibration often describes the gap between confidence and actual accuracy.
