milk cart

Morning dairy transport

A milk cart is a small wheeled vehicle used to deliver milk to homes, traditionally pulled by a horse and driven by a milkman making early morning rounds.

The term evokes a bygone era before refrigeration and supermarkets, when daily doorstep delivery was standard: The milk cart rattled down the street at dawn.

In British usage, milk float—an electric vehicle—largely replaced the horse-drawn cart.
