religious vows
Monastery entry promises
Religious vows are solemn promises made to God, typically upon entering a religious order.
The classic trio—poverty, chastity, and obedience—commits monks, nuns, and other religious to own nothing personally, remain celibate, and submit to their superiors.
Taking vows is a lifelong commitment, though the Catholic Church can dispense members from them under certain circumstances.
She took her final vows at twenty-three.
