microtear
Minuscule tissue damage
A microtear is a tiny rupture in tissue, typically muscle fibers or tendons, caused by strain or overuse.
These small injuries are invisible to the naked eye but accumulate during intense exercise: Muscle growth occurs when microtears heal and the fibers rebuild stronger.
The term appears frequently in sports medicine and fitness contexts.
