metal allergy

Jewelry causes rash

Metal allergy is a reaction of the immune system to certain metals, most commonly nickel, cobalt, and chromium.

Contact with jewelry, belt buckles, or surgical implants can cause skin rashes, itching, or inflammation in sensitive individuals: She developed a metal allergy and can only wear gold earrings now.

The reaction is technically a form of contact dermatitis rather than a true allergy.
