mercury glass
Antique mirrored ornaments
Mercury glass is decorative glassware with a silvery, mirror-like coating on its inner surface, created by sealing a metallic solution between double walls of glass.
Originally made in 19th-century Europe as an affordable alternative to solid silver, it's now valued for its antique appearance and soft reflective quality: The mantle was lined with mercury glass vases.
Despite the name, modern versions rarely contain actual mercury.
