medusoid

Free-swimming cnidarian form

Medusoid describes something resembling a medusa—the free-swimming, umbrella-shaped stage of jellyfish and related creatures.

The term appears in marine biology to distinguish this bell-like form from the stationary polyp stage: The organism alternates between polyp and medusoid phases.

More loosely, medusoid can describe anything jellyfish-like in appearance or movement.
