match game
Tiebreaker competition event
Match game is a contest or competition decided by a single match rather than a series, or one that determines an overall winner.
In some contexts, it refers to games where players pair or match items—cards, tiles, or images: The children played a memory match game with animal pictures.
The phrase sometimes describes any decisive contest: Tonight's match game determines who advances to the finals.
