mail-in vote
Sent-in ballot
A mail-in vote is a ballot cast by postal delivery rather than in person at a polling place.
Voters receive ballots at home, mark their choices, and return them by mail or designated drop box.
Also called an absentee ballot, though some jurisdictions distinguish between absentee voting (requiring an excuse) and universal mail-in voting (available to all): Several states conduct elections entirely by mail-in vote.
