magnetic mine
Ship-seeking bomb
A magnetic mine is an explosive device triggered by the magnetic field of a passing ship or vehicle.
Unlike contact mines, it detonates when metal mass disturbs its sensors, allowing it to destroy targets without direct contact.
Magnetic mines were particularly devastating in naval warfare until degaussing—neutralizing a ship's magnetic signature—became standard countermeasure.
