luminiferous
Carrying light through
Luminiferous means light-bearing or light-transmitting.
The word appears almost exclusively in the phrase luminiferous ether (or aether)—the hypothetical substance nineteenth-century physicists believed permeated space and served as the medium through which light waves traveled.
The Michelson-Morley experiment's failure to detect this ether helped pave the way for Einstein's relativity.
