long-period
Infrequently repeating pattern
Long-period describes phenomena that occur over extended time intervals, most commonly in astronomy and physics.
A long-period comet takes more than 200 years to complete its orbit around the sun, often originating from the distant Oort Cloud.
The term also applies to seismic waves, variable stars, and other cyclical phenomena whose cycles span considerable time.
Long-period comets are difficult to predict because they may not return for thousands of years.
