liquorice
Sweet black root
Liquorice is the British spelling of licorice—a plant whose root yields a distinctively sweet, slightly medicinal flavour used in candy and herbal remedies.
The black, chewy confection made from it divides opinion sharply: I can't stand liquorice, but my grandmother loved it.
Liquorice root is also brewed into tea and used in traditional medicine.
