lionizing

Treating as celebrity

Lionizing is treating someone as a celebrity or object of great interest—showering them with attention and admiration.

The word comes from the practice of showing visitors the lions at the Tower of London, the main attraction.

To lionize someone is to make them the center of attention: The press spent weeks lionizing the young inventor.
