light railway
Urban rail transit
A light railway is a railroad built to lower specifications than mainline systems—narrower gauge, lighter rails, smaller locomotives, and gentler curves.
Light railways typically serve local or industrial purposes: mining operations, logging camps, tourist attractions, or rural communities where full-scale rail would be impractical or too expensive.
The narrow-gauge light railway carried visitors through the mountain pass.
