light rail systems
City transit lines
Light rail systems are urban transit networks using electrically powered trains that run on dedicated tracks, typically at street level or slightly elevated.
They occupy a middle ground between buses and heavy rail subways—faster and higher-capacity than buses, but lighter and cheaper to build than full metro systems.
Cities install light rail to reduce traffic congestion and connect suburbs to downtown cores: The new light rail system cut my commute in half.
