light ale
Mild golden beer
Light ale is a British term for a bottled pale ale with relatively low alcohol content and a lighter body than standard bitter.
The term distinguishes it from stronger ales and refers more to the style and strength than the color: I'll have a light ale with my lunch.
In American usage, "light beer" typically means reduced-calorie lager, a different concept entirely.
