letter box
Where mail lands
A letter box is a slot or container for receiving mail.
In British usage, it's the opening in a door or wall where postal carriers deliver letters, or a public receptacle for mailing items.
In American usage, mailbox is more common.
Letter box also describes a widescreen film format that adds black bars above and below the image to preserve the original aspect ratio on standard screens: The DVD includes both letter box and full-screen versions.
