leaf bud
Unopened growth point
A leaf bud is a small, undeveloped growth on a plant that will become a leaf or leafy shoot.
Distinguished from flower buds, which produce blossoms, leaf buds are typically more pointed and slender.
Gardeners watch for swelling leaf buds as a sign of spring growth: The leaf buds on the maple are just starting to open.
