laying over
Waiting between flights
Laying over is stopping temporarily during a journey, usually between connecting flights or other transportation segments.
A layover is this interim period: We're laying over in Chicago for three hours before the connecting flight to Denver.
The stop is incidental to the trip rather than a destination itself.
