latter
Second of two
Latter refers to the second of two things previously mentioned, contrasting with former: The menu offered soup or salad, and I chose the latter.
It can also mean near the end of a period: the latter half of the century, in his latter years.
The word is somewhat formal and appears more often in writing than speech.
