latigo
Cinch-tightening leather strip
A latigo is the leather strap on a Western saddle used to tighten and secure the cinch around a horse's belly.
The rider threads it through rings and ties it off to keep the saddle in place: He adjusted the latigo before mounting.
The term comes from Spanish and is standard in Western riding and rodeo contexts.
