lateraled

Passed the pigskin

Lateraled is the past tense of lateral used as a verb, meaning to throw a sideways or backward pass in American football.

Unlike a forward pass, a lateral can be thrown from anywhere on the field: He lateraled the ball to the running back just before being tackled.

The term sometimes extends to any sideways transfer: She lateraled the project to another department.
