ankle tackle

Low diving grab

An ankle tackle is a tackle in rugby or American football where the defender grabs the ball carrier's ankles or lower legs to bring them down.

It's typically a last-resort move when the tackler can't reach higher: He dove and made a desperate ankle tackle to prevent the touchdown.

The technique is effective but risky, as missing means the runner goes free.
