late adopter
Waits for proof
A late adopter is someone who takes up new technology, trends, or practices well after others have embraced them.
The term comes from marketing theory about how innovations spread through populations—from early adopters to the mainstream to those who resist change longest.
Late adopters may be skeptical, cautious, or simply uninterested in novelty: I'm a late adopter—I just got my first smartphone last year.
