lantern jaw
Gaunt facial feature
A lantern jaw is a long, thin jaw that gives the lower face a gaunt, angular appearance.
The term comes from the shape of old lanterns with protruding sides.
Someone described as lantern-jawed has prominent, bony facial features: His lantern jaw and hollow cheeks gave him a stern look.
