kill-time

Waste the hours

Kill-time is an adjective describing activities done merely to pass time rather than for any productive purpose: a kill-time game on my phone, kill-time conversation while waiting.

The hyphenated form works as a modifier; the verb phrase is unhyphenated: I was just killing time until my appointment.
