kidney donation
Giving a filter
Kidney donation is the surgical giving of a kidney to someone whose own kidneys have failed.
Living donors can give one kidney and survive with the remaining one; deceased donors may provide both.
The procedure enables kidney transplants, which offer better outcomes than dialysis for many patients with end-stage renal disease: She's considering kidney donation to help her brother.
