keyword filter
Banned phrase detector
A keyword filter is a system that scans text for specific words or phrases, typically to block, flag, or sort content automatically.
Email services use keyword filters to catch spam; parental controls filter profanity; social platforms filter hate speech.
The approach is blunt—filters often miss context, blocking innocent uses while clever misspellings slip through: The keyword filter flagged "Scunthorpe" because of the substring it contains.
