kagoul

Lightweight rain shell

A kagoul, also spelled cagoule, is a lightweight waterproof jacket, typically with a hood and often designed to be pulled over the head rather than zipped up the front.

The term is chiefly British and refers to the kind of thin, packable rain jacket that hikers and schoolchildren stuff into bags for unexpected downpours.

I always keep a kagoul in my rucksack when walking in the hills.
