just because

Whim, nothing more

Just because is a self-contained explanation meaning "for no particular reason" or "without needing justification." It often answers why questions with deliberate vagueness: Why did you do that? Just because.

Parents use it to shut down children's demands for reasons: Because I said so and just because function identically.

The phrase can also introduce clauses: Just because you're tired doesn't mean you can be rude.
