ingrowths
Tissues growing inward
Ingrowths are things that grow inward rather than outward.
The term appears most often in medical contexts, describing tissue that develops into surrounding structures: The surgeon removed several ingrowths from the nasal passage.
An ingrown toenail is the most familiar example—nail edge curving into flesh.
The word can also describe any inward development or encroachment.
