An ingrown nail is a toenail or fingernail that grows into the surrounding skin rather than over it, causing pain, swelling, and sometimes infection.
The condition most commonly affects the big toe: The ingrown nail on my toe is killing me.
Also called an ingrown toenail when the location is understood.
