incognita
Female mystery figure
Incognita is the feminine form of incognito, used when referring specifically to a woman whose identity is concealed or unknown.
The term appears most notably in the phrase terra incognita, Latin for "unknown land," describing unexplored or unmapped territory on old maps and, by extension, any unfamiliar subject or area of knowledge.
The biology of deep-sea creatures remains largely terra incognita.
