in-box

Unread mail folder

An in-box is a container or designated space for incoming items awaiting attention—originally a physical tray on a desk for paperwork, now primarily the folder in email and messaging applications where new messages arrive: My in-box is overflowing.

The term has become shorthand for accumulated obligations: I'll add it to my mental in-box.
