ice berg

Mostly submerged mass

A massive chunk of ice that has broken off from a glacier and floats in the sea.

Most of an iceberg's mass lies below the waterline—only about ten percent is visible above the surface.

This gives rise to the metaphor tip of the iceberg, meaning the small visible portion of a much larger problem or situation.

Usually spelled as one word: iceberg.
