emasculation

Stripping masculine power

Emasculation is the removal of male genitals, or more broadly, the stripping away of masculine qualities or power.

The literal sense appears in medical and veterinary contexts.

The figurative sense dominates everyday use: The budget cuts were an emasculation of the agency's enforcement powers.

To describe a man as emasculated suggests he has been weakened, humiliated, or rendered ineffectual—often by a woman or by circumstances that undermine traditional masculine authority.
